Grand Opening of Mellwood Parenting Center
Date Posted: June 07, 2011
Second Genesis celebrated the grand opening of our Mellwood Parenting Center for women and children on May 18th, 2011. Thanks to the support of our generous donors, we were able upgrade both the infrastructure and the programming at Mellwood, greatly improving the treatment process for the residents. Construction on the project began in October, 2011 and was completed in May, 2011. The rooms and areas that were remodeled included: the lounge and lobby, the group room (for observation), separate rooms for infants, toddlers, and pre-teens, the computer lab, the fitness center, and the library.
The grand opening program consisted of a presentation by President and CEO Jack Klimp during which Amy Kleine, Program Director of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, acting as a representative of all the donors, accepted a plaque which will be prominently displayed in the facility. Following the presentation, attendees were treated to a tour of the facility, followed by lunch with the Mellwood Family. Attendees included Board Members Patricia A. Farrell and Kerwin Miller, representatives of BSAS, ADAA, CASA, vendors, donors such as Chris Moline and The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Second Genesis staff and Mellwood Family members.
Having opened in 1994, the Mellwood Parenting Center for women and children is dedicated to providing quality inpatient rehabilitative services to women and children, helping women balance helping themselves and raising their children, and helping mothers learn to guide their children’s physical, emotional, and academic development so that their kids can just “be kids.”
