Raymond Mathias Brown Sr. (known by childhood friends as Sparky), 55, of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1954, to the late Lorraine Mathias Brown and Dora Faye Middlebrook-Brown. He was the grandson of the late Melvin and Carrie Brown of Frederick.
Ray is survived by his wife, Joy Luella Banks Brown; and his five children, TaraFaith, Jocelyn Renee, Myra Jean, Raymond Mathias Brown II and Victoria Joy. He is also the loving grandfather of two, Jaylyn Michelle-Love and Raymond Mathias Brown III. He is also survived by his five sisters, Emily Faye, Valencia and husband, Darryl, Church, Derrinda Denise, Pamela Lynn and Antoinette and husband, Johnnie, Holloway; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Raymond dedicated 30 plus years to the field of substance abuse through Second Genesis, and over those decades gained numerous lasting friendships. Raymond also worked at the local 7-11 on Fingerboard Road, and leaves behind several friends, both colleagues and patrons.
Professional services entrusted to Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home in Frederick. Public viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at New Dimension Worship Center 919 North E. St., Suite B, Frederick, MD 21701. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon at which time services will begin. Interment will be held at Hopehill Cemetery for immediate family only following service.
