What are the admissions criteria?
We treat individuals who are: -over 18 years of age -have a history of substance abuse/dependance -have moderate, not severe, psychological and/or medical disabilities -have completed detoxification, if necessary, prior to entrance -women (who are pregnant and/or up to two children less than 10 years old) -those affiliated with the criminal justice system
Admission Eligibility Requirements
For individuals to be placed in Second Genesis’ treatment programs, they must meet the following placement criteria:
- The individual must be 18 years or older. For the women and children program, the individual may have up to two children not exceeding the age of 10 years old.
- The individual has a history of excessive substance abuse or dependence according to DSM IV-TR criteria and meets the criteria for the appropriate ASAM, PPC-2 level of care into which he/she is being placed.
- The individual does not have a complicating condition (e.g., psychiatric disorder, developmental delay, or mental disability) that will prevent him/her from participating in and benefiting from treatment services. Referrals with an AXIS I mental health diagnosis may be referred to our co-occurring program.
- The individual is not currently expressing any suicidal or homicidal thoughts or behaviors. Recent occurrences of these will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- The individual is not in an agitated state that requires the use of chemical or physical restraints.
- The individual is not manifesting withdrawal symptoms from alcohol or any other mood-altering substance.
- The individual is not subject to a current arrest warrant, is not awaiting sentencing, and is not a fugitive of any jurisdiction.
- The individual is not exhibiting acts of violence. Individuals with historical or current acts of violence against themselves or others will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- The individual has no medical complications that will interfere with participation in treatment.
- The individual does not need frequent, prolonged medical appointments.
- The individual has written documentation of tuberculosis screening results that have been taken within one year.
Not having these items would never make an individual ineligible for admission to the treatment program.
