Jane Abraham | Director

For over 15 years, Jane Abraham served as a Retail and Fashion Coordinator for Bloomingdales. Throughout her life, she has remained committed to various community organizations including the Aaron & Lillie Straus Foundation; the Jewish Historical Society; Hebrew Homes of Maryland; and the Lombardi Cancer Center. She has generously supported Second Genesis for years and served as Gala Chairperson in 1996. Abraham is also a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Zion Avissar | Director

Zion Avissar has been part of the Second Genesis family for over thirty years in many facets. Zion chairs the Real Estate Committee of the Board of Directors as well as, participating with his own family, in volunteer projects and community events. After arriving from Israel, in 1967, Zion attended the School of Architecture at the University of Maryland. In 1972, he established his company, Avis-R Co. In the Washington area community, Zion has built and acquired a portfolio of commercial, multi-family, retail, and warehouse properties. In addition, he has also been serving on the Israel Bond Committee for the past twenty years.

Bob Carlstrom | Chairman of the Board

Bob Carlstrom is Vice President for Marketing of National Cable Communications. Bob joined the NCC corporate team in January 2007, after having developed the initial strategy for the industry to bring TV On Demand to the political, governmental, and public affairs arenas. A former senior executive in the White House Office of Management and Budget, he also co-founded and ran two substantial business enterprises, one in professional services, which under his leadership became one of the largest independent government and public affairs firms in Washington, and the second in manufacturing, formed through the concurrent acquisition of six companies in five states. Carlstrom earned his B.A. in Political Science from Augustana College (IL) and has studied general management, public administration, and law at American University (DC) and Wayne State University (MI). Carlstrom is serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Second Genesis.

John Carnevale, Ph.D. | Director

Dr. John Carnevale is President of Carnevale Associates, LLC, a public policy firm that offers guidance to governments, organizations, and communities as they confront the public policy and program challenges of the 21st century. The firm is organized into three practice groups to provide value and insight to our customers-Strategic Planning, Integrated Communications, and Policy Research and Data Analysis. John has served three administrations and four “Drug Czars” within the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government. At the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), he directed the formulation of the President’s National Drug Control Strategy as well as the federal drug control budget. John is recognized as the key architect of the Performance Measures of Effectiveness (PME) System which ONDCP used to determine progress towards achieving its national goals and objectives. John also worked as a researcher and budget examiner at the Office of Management and Budget and as a public finance economist at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.

Nancy Dudley | Director

As a 1987 graduate of Second Genesis, Nancy has served on the Board for 15 years, including in the position of Vice-President. Nancy has worked in drug policy for over 20 years, including at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. She helped to found the women and children's program at Mellwood through a White House demonstration grant. She has a Masters Degree from the Columbia School of Journalism and has written extensively about the drug issue. She lives in Chevy Chase MD, is married to Mark Heaslip, and has two children, Courtney and Sean.

Patti Farrell | Secretary

She is a married mother of three daughters, one of whom was a resident at the Second Genesis Anne Arundel program and is now herself a successful owner of a small business. Patricia has served on the Board of Trustees at the Connelly School of the Holy Child in Potomac, MD, where she and her daughter are currently the dive coaches. She has served as the Home & School president and on the Parent Advisory Board at St. Bartholomew’s School in Bethesda, where she coached cheerleading and softball for her daughters’ teams. She also served as President on the Montgomery County Dive League. She is currently the Secretary of the Executive Board at Second Genesis.

Roscoe Little | Treasurer

Mr. Little is an Investment Consultant with Miles Howland & Co. LLC. He graduated from Duke University with a BA in Economics in 1979 and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Finance MBA, in 1983. Mr. Little has over 20 years of financial institution and investment advisory experience and is actively involved in tutoring Executive MBA students from a number of regional MBA programs as well as tutoring math for 5th and 6th grade students. Mr. Little resides in Vienna, VA and is an avid golfer and cyclist. He has four children ages 24, 22, 20, and 14.

Charles Lollar | Director

Charles Lollar has been in business for over 15 years. Starting as a front line manager for UPS in 1993. Charles served for 3 years as a manager for UPS and joined the Marine Corps in spring 1997, where he continues to serve in a reserve capacity as an Intelligence Analyist at the Pentagon. In the summer of 2004, Charles began a career as a Service Manager for Cintas Corp. and for the past 5 years has been the General Manager for Cintas, managing both the D.C. and central Maryland markets. He currently serves as an Executive Board member of Leadership Maryland, Merrick School of Business/UB, Maryland Chamber of Commerce and is currently a member of the Class of 2007 for Leadership Prince Georges County. Charles resides in Newburg, Maryland with his wife Rosha and four daughters.

Alan Meltzer | Director

Alan Meltzer is the driving force behind The Meltzer Group. Founded in 1982, The Meltzer Group is an industry leader, offering exceptional service and innovative problem solving ideas in the areas of individual insurance, business insurance, and financial services. Alan has spoken nationally to numerous insurance, legal and accounting professional organizations on the uses of life insurance in both estate planning applications and non-qualified deferred compensation programs. In addition, he has won MassMutual’s highest honor, Agent of the Year, sixteen times during his career. Other industry recognition includes, but is not limited to, Million Dollar Round Table every year since 1978 and Top of the Table every year since 1980, an annual accomplishment that places him in the top 1% of agents nationwide. Alan moved to the metropolitan area from Massachusetts in 1969 to attend American University. Since that time he has involved himself in numerous civic activities and is extremely devoted to his family, his wife Amy and their four children.

Kerwin Miller | Director

Attorney Kerwin E. Miller is a Washington, DC native, who serves as a Government Relations Consultant and also serves as an Executive Coach with Career Consulting Incorporated, a premier full-service career management, development and marketing firm. Kerwin has served as a Federal Government Attorney and was appointed by DC Mayor Anthony A. Williams to his Cabinet Administration, as the Director of the newly-established DC Office of Veterans Affairs. Kerwin was responsible for the management and daily operation of the new office which provides advocacy support and benefits assistance and information to District of Columbia’s 40,000 veterans, their dependents, and their survivors concerning federal and District laws and regulations affecting veterans’ benefits and claims. Kerwin was later reappointed, as the Director, in the Cabinet Administration of Mayor Adrian Fenty, where he served, until his recent Federal Government retirement. Kerwin is a retired Naval Reserve Officer, who has received awards and honors for his Washington, DC community service involvement. Kerwin earned his LL.M., from the George Washington University Law School; his J.D., from Howard University School of Law; and his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy.

Rob Naddelman | Director

In 1995, Rob joined forces with his former college teammate and founder Steve Sclafani to expand and build The Baseball Factory. Under Rob's direction, The Baseball Factory has grown by over 1000% in the past 10 years. Rob is currently a member of the National Registry of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals and was written up in Business Week with Steve Sclafani as successful business leaders on a national scale. Rob is also the Executive Director of The Baseball Factory's B.A.S.E.-H.I.T. Foundation which helps at risk youth excel in the classroom by using baseball as an incentive. The Foundation operates a 10 team interscholastic middle school baseball and tutoring league in Baltimore City. Rob is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he was a two time All-Ivy League selection and competed in the NCAA Division I College World Series Midwest Regional.

Peregrine Roberts | Vice-Chairman

Mr. Roberts is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and a graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia (1981 B.A. Economics). He resides with his wife in the Observatory Circle neighborhood of Washington DC and is a member of the All Saint's Church in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware. Mr. Roberts founded Bethesda based TSC Realty Services LLC in 1999 in partnership with The John Akridge Company. TSC Realty Services LLC is a multi-faceted commercial real estate advisory firm. In 1985, Mr. Roberts began his real estate career as an industrial broker with the Carey Winston Company, now known as Transwestern Commercial Real Estate Services, and is a Life Member of the Washington Board of Realtors. He is a licensed real estate broker in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. During his 20 years in the industry, Mr. Roberts has overseen the leasing, sale, development and operation of office and industrial projects totaling approximately 20,000,000 square feet.

Ed Romanoff | Vice-Chairman of the Board

Ed Romanoff is the Founder, President and CEO of PineRock Productions, Inc., a full-service business communications company headquartered in Washington, DC. The company, founded in 1996, specializes in the design and production of marketing and internal communications campaigns for Corporations, Associations and other organizations. The company has won many awards including several Golden Eagle Awards from the New York Film Festival. Clients include: Coca-Cola, Capitol One Financial, Porsche North America, McKesson and Exxon Mobil. An active member in the community, he spends much of his time volunteering for fundraising efforts as well as tutoring. Romanoff is an avid musician and pursues a wide range of interests that include photography, writing, golf and tennis.

Dan Rosenthal | Director

CEO of Rosenthal Partners, Inc., Dan has been listed among Forbes Magazine's “Top 100 Creative People in the Country” and is the recipient of many awards for creativity from New York, London, Chicago, Los Angeles, as well as Washington, including two first place Clio Awards, three first place ANDY Awards, several London International Awards, and the coveted AAF Silver Medal. Dan holds a BA in advertising from the University of Nebraska, and an AAF certificate in marketing from Harvard University. He has served on the board of Second Genesis for six years. He is also an amateur magician.

John Troha | Director

John Troha recently celebrated his thirty-fifth anniversary as a freelance photographer. John received a B.S. in Physics, from St. Vincent College. His extensive professional experience has included a myriad of situations from photojournalism and personal events to high- tech industrial photography. He has photographed six of the last seven presidents, produced and directed DVD’s, television commercials and video crews and received numerous trade and print media awards. John also creates gallery prints, giclee cards and an annual calendar of favorite subjects. Having photographed at Second Genesis facilities, John is committed to publishing the message that treatment programs work. John and his wife, Carol live in their historic pre-Civil War family house. Their two sons grew up as the sixth generation in the family home. John's interest in historic restoration is well explored in his own home.

Nicole Watson | Director

Nicole Watson is the founder and principal of Vail Watson, a retained executive search firm focused on placing superior finance professionals at leading growth organizations. Prior to starting Vail Watson, Nicole worked at the Corporate Executive Board as a research director and practice manager for memberships serving 2,000+ CFOs and Controllers. She holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia University and a BA in History from Davidson College. Nicole and her husband live in Washington, D.C. with their two great danes. Outside of work, her interests include cooking, tennis, reading and travel. She is also on the Board of Directors of The Washington Home & Community Hospices and volunteers at Miriam’s Kitchen.
