The isolation and shutdown of communities have directly impacted virtually everyone, but some vulnerable groups of society more than others. Since the COVID-19 related social distancing began, the frequency of alcohol and substance use has dramatically increased.

We believe there is no one solution or approach to combating substance use disorders and that everyone should do what they do best. That is why we work with the best community-based organizations in the field to provide support for effective solutions in addressing substance abuse.

In our pledge to do more, we helped provide over $100,000 in support to our program partners during the first three months of this year.

Since our inception in 2016, we have provided over $600,000 in funds to help educate and assist the DMV community in preventing and treating substance use disorders.

On June 30th, H.E. Meshal Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United States of America, and Mrs. Eva Al-Thani will host an intimate dinner at their personal residence in support of the Second Genesis Foundation’s work with substance use prevention, education, treatment, and research.

This private dinner, which will be held under the stars in the beautiful backyard of the Ambassador’s residence, will include music, keynote remarks, and highlights from our partner organizations.

We are excited to welcome Benta Davis Ryan to our team! Benta is currently a Master of Public Health Candidate at the Trinity University of Washington, where she is studying community and global health.

She joins Second Genesis Foundation with a focus on community campaigns and health messaging. Benta’s passion for health has taken her to travel the world. In West Africa, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer assisting with health and education programs, teaching preschool students, and working to improve everything from preschool curricula to infrastructure.

She has also worked as a Facilitator for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and is passionate about building strong community partnerships for greater impact.
