Red Ribbon Round Table Luncheon

More than 96,000 drug overdose deaths were reported in the United States between March 2020 and March 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down normal daily routines, according to recent data released by the CDC. During this time of great urgency, Second Genesis Foundation is proud to highlight the brave men and women of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), who work hard to keep the public safe from this global health crisis.

In recognition of the DEA’s Red Ribbon Week, Second Genesis Foundation hosted an intimate Round Table Luncheon and discussion with local leaders around the current scope of drug issues facing the United States. We were pleased to have a diverse group of individuals from both the public and private sector, along with individuals and community organizations working to prevent and address substance use disorders.

Second Genesis Foundation hosted an intimate Round Table Luncheon at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C. on October 20th, where local leaders gathered to discuss the public health crisis facing the United States.

Sean Fearns, Chief of DEA’s Community Outreach Section, Office of Congressional & Public Affairs helped share some in-depth knowledge and insight on the opioid epidemic. He also spoke about how DEA is working together with community organizations to help prevent more families and communities from losing loved ones to a drug overdose.

The Drug Enforcement Administration works to develop and implement strategic national partnerships with other organizations which help educate the public on the current drug threats facing the country, through an initiative called Operation Engage. Operation Engage is a comprehensive approach that targets the top drug threat identified by the local DEA division while continuing to focus on drug trafficking, violence, and crime reduction. Second Genesis Foundation is proud to partake in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Red Ribbon Week campaign, an annual national health observance to promote drug-free living. This event brings focus and attention to drug education and prevention – not just during Red Ribbon Week, held on October 23-31, but also throughout the year.

As part of the campaign, individuals, families, and communities across the nation pledge to live a drug-free lifestyle, wear red ribbons, and participate in community-wide anti-drug events.
